The iPad!
So, it’s finally here. The UPS driver handed it off around 9 AM. I’ve had a few hours to mess around with it and the verdict is — WOW. This little machine is lightning quick. Switching from app to app takes only a fraction of a second. I don’t have that many apps yet, but some of the more hearty programs fire up instantly, relative to their iPhone counterparts.
It feels great in your hands, much heavier than looks would give away. It is incredibly thin but has a nice heft to it. Not so much that you get tired holding it, just enough to feel really solid. Netflix streams over wifi with no stutter, the quality of the video varies, but is never unwatchable.
The commercials are dead-on, concerning internet browsing. It does just, “feel right.” Scrolling a page, pinch-zooming from place to place, double-tapping to zoom out, all feel very natural. There was zero learning curve, a year of iPhone use under my belt probably helped.
As more developers start experimenting with the robust processing speed and extra screen real-estate, the possibilities become pretty exciting. In the next couple months my hope is the iPad goes from a novelty (albeit, totally kickass) media consumption device, to an indispensable daily tool.
